25 Things You Won’t Know About Me
I guess I’m just not that into sharing. Tip Of The Day: The answer to another reader question, plus a random Facebook rant. Because I am ALL ABOUT the ranting – and the helping! – if you haven’t noticed. Tip For Tomorrow: An actual useful tip from the Rachel Ray show. She was so cute and proud of herself, and it really is a good tip, so I guess I should share it here. Don’t worry, I won’t start saying “yummo” and over-gesticulating to emphasize the most banal point. However… love you Rachel! Mean it! Call me! Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: As you know (or maybe not, if you’re new to Cheap But Not Easy. And if you are new, welcome! Pull up a chair and hang out for awhile.), I do a weekly frugal living segment for Fox 9 News every Tuesday. And after each episode, I host an online chat on their website, from 5 PM to 6 PM. I love it when folks stop by to chat about all things thrifty, but sometimes the Fox chat function doesn’t work very well (sorry Fox, but it’s true). When these Foxy problems occur, viewers can simply e-mail their questions to my thecheapchick@gmail.comaddress. By the way, everyone is welcome to send me their frugal living questions. Who knows? You might get a post dedicated to you, which, I know, HUGE HONOR. Snork. Yesterday, a viewer had a question about what to do with a closet full of nice suits she no longer needs for her career. The lucky duck is now working from home, and can do her job in her ugliest grandma-living-in-Miami velour sweat suits if she wants to. Here is what I advised she do – let me know if I missed anything: 1. If she lives in either City, call to set up an appointment with Nu Look Consignment or Elite Repeat. Bring in her suits, and have their knowledgeable staff sort through them to determine which ones would definitely sell. 2. If she lives in the suburbs, find the nearest Turn Style, and consign her suits there. Luckily, Turn Style does not require an appointment; you just stop by during normal business hours. 3. Take the remaining suits and donate them to Dress for Success. This organization’s mission is, “to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” I can get behind that. She could also try selling any of her super-high-end suits at Fashion Avenue in Edina, or on eBay.com – but then she’d have to bother with shipping. And Craigslist.org is another option, but then she’d have random strangers stopping by her home, and I think it’s best to avoid that as much as possible. Speaking of random strangers, there’s a whole lotta random strangeness going on in Facebooktopia right now. The 25 Random Things meme is sweeping the Book, and oodles of Bookers have climbed aboard the Share Train (which is totally different than the Cher Train. Which would be AWESOME.). In fact, the 25 Things meme is so huge, USA Today has an article about it on the front page of their Life section. You know you’re important if you show up in USA Today (p.s. there’s also an article about a movie I’m dying to see – Coraline. Do any of you plan on going?). Now, I have nothing against sharing with the group as a rule. I love hearing what folks think or feel about any given topic. What’s bothering me about the meme, though, is that you have to tag 25 other Friends when you complete it. And then those 25 Friends are notified that they’ve been tagged in the meme. And if you have enough Friends, you’re going to be tagged A LOT. Here’s what I don’t like: a. It feels a little too email-chain-letter-esque for my tastes, and b. after being told once or twice or TWENTY times about something I should do? I get a tiny bit IRRITATED. I also get contrary, dig my heels in, and refuse to do it. Even if “it” is something as banal (yes! Used that word twice in one post! I rule!) as a 25 Random Things About Me meme. There, end of rant. And I promise, no more rants this week.

OMG... I know what you mean! I was tagged at least 9 times on Facebook for that 25 Things list, and so I finally caved and did it because I was starting to feel guilty (like I was the one spoiling everyone's fun). I didn't want to be the party pooper, right? But then again, I couldn't think of 25 people that I wasn't embarrassed to plague with the stupid assignment. So yea... good times. After that little stunt I started thinking, hmmm... I think I hate Facebook.

I've been hit a lot myself lately and I haven't been really excited about completing my list either even though I am also feeling the "pressure" to do it.
Sigh...

Just saw your comment over on PTU, and I thought I'd answer you here. I'll be in the western side of NE, but I was going to tell you that my youngest sis lives in Chicago, so between your family in Chicago and NE, and my family in Chicago and NE, I *really* think we're going to meet up and party one of these days. :o) By the way... you're sweet to say my granny squares look alright. I think you're pulling my leg, but you're nice that way.

I was tagged a ton and I didn't know I even had a thing called "notes"

As you know I don't do facebook requests or and of these 25 posts (even sent via regular email). I simply don't have time...and then I think...wow do other people have this much time?
I want to go see Caroline. Can you wait till I get back from fun in the sun and we can see our 2nd movie together?

Lol, I don't know of anyone on Facebook who hasn't been tagged by that Facebook thing at least once.

Ok feeling a little guilty, I might have tagged you... but only because I like you! :) It was my first experience with FB, and I thought it was kindof fun. Now, I've been tagged for about 5 other kinds of random note things, and it's getting a bit ridiculous. I don't need to spend ALL my free time on FB.

I am with you CheapChick! I'm holding out on that damn 25 things meme. I refuse to do it. I will *not* cave! :)
I've been tagged SO many times... if people really want to know me, then go read my About Me page on my blog. if it's not there, I ain't sharin'.
Plus, sheesh, I have better things to do with my online time than to think of 25 things about myself. I'd rather type up 3 product reviews or cheapy beauty tips! ;)
